Course Descriptions

During each year at NCIBC, students will take four types of courses: Bible, theology, christian education, and pastoral ministry.  Classes are on a rotating schedule and will not be offered every year.  The following classes make up the curriculum of North Central Indiana Bible College:

BIBLE COURSES

BI101 – OLD TESTAMENT SURVEY I – 3 hours

A brief overview of each book in the Old Testament, students will understand the themes, unity, and purpose of each book.

BI103 – OLD TESTAMENT SURVEY II – 3 hours

Continuing the overview of each Old Testament book.

BI102 – NEW TESTAMENT SURVEY I – 3 hours

A brief look at each book in the New Testament. The author, plan and purpose of each book, as well as its distinguishing features, will be the focus of this study.

BI104 – NEW TESTAMENT SURVEY II – 3 hours

Continuing the New Testament study begun in BI102.

BI110 – THE LIFE OF CHRIST – 3 hours

A foundational study of the life of Jesus Christ. His life will be studied thoroughly in the Gospels, as well as Christ throughout the entire Scriptures.

BI201 PENTATEUCH I – 3 hours

A foundational study of the book of Genesis, the beginnings of God’s redemptive people and of the unfolding of His plan for mankind through the earliest years of recorded history.

BI210 – PENTATEUCH II – 3 hours

A detailed study of Exodus through Deuteronomy, the purpose of the writings, and the application and parallels of the Law to the Church.

BI220 – ACTS – 3 hoursThe study of the book of Acts with emphasis on the formation of the Church, the work of the Holy Spirit among men, and early missionary activities of the apostle Paul.

BI230 – PAULINE EPISTLES – 3 hours

An inductive study of the Pauline letters, including study of the structure, content and purpose of each letter.

BI240 – GENERAL EPISTLES – 3 hours

A study of the books of James, I & II Peter, I, II, & III John and Jude.

BI301 – THE SYNOPTIC GOSPELS & JOHN – 3 hours

The study of the structure, parallels, and individual differences in the Synoptic Gospels compared with the book of John.

BI310 – THE KINGS AND JUDGES – 3 hours

The study of the leaders of Judah and Israel through the books of I and II Samuel, I and II Kings, and Judges. The effectiveness of their spiritual leadership will also be analyzed.

BI320 – MAJOR AND MINOR PROPHETS – 3 hours

The study of the message and ministry of each prophet. Emphasis will be placed upon their purpose, literary style and recurring themes. The study also focuses upon their contemporary social, political, and religious conditions.

BI330 – PASTORAL EPISTLES – 3 hours

An inductive study of the pastoral epistles, I and II Timothy and Titus. The course will focus on the application to ministry, as well as authorship, destination, purpose, structure, and message.

BI401 – DANIEL AND REVELATION – 3 hours

A brief overview of the main methods of interpreting these books, preterit, historical, allegorical and futurist. Emphasis will be placed on the futuristic study of the point of view of the end of time.

BI410 – ROMANS – 3 hours

The structure and content of St. Paul’s letter to the Romans. In addition, the doctrines of the Bible as found in Romans will be studied. The scope of God’s plan for all of mankind is progressively unfolded throughout the study.

BI420 – CORINTHIANS – 3 hours

An inductive study of the two Corinthian letters with an analysis of church and pastoral problems that gave rise to the letters and the application of Christian principles to their solutions.

BI430 – WISDOM LITERATURE – 3 hours

A study of the Biblical books of Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes and the Song of Solomon. The literary structure of each book is analyzed with emphasis upon the characteristics of Hebrew poetry.

THEOLOGY COURSES

TH101 – SYSTEMATIC THEOLOGY – 3 hours

An introduction to the study of theology, and the existence and nature of God.

TH102 – RIGHTEOUSNESS – 3 hours

An in-depth look at righteousness as a work of the Cross, not the actions of man. This course distinguishes righteousness from “right-ness” and exposes man’s sin consciousness.

TH110 – MINISTRY OF THE HOLY SPIRIT – 3 hours

The study of the work of the Holy Spirit on the body, soul and spirit of man. This course will also study the person and work of the Holy Spirit, healing, and divine health.

TH120 – SPIRITUAL WARFARE & DEMONOLOGY – 3 hrs

A study for Christian leaders in viewing conflict, spiritual preparation for warfare, and the nature and work of demonics in society today.

TH201 – FAITH – 3 hours

An introduction to the classical disciplines of Christian faith. The course is designed to help students increase the operation of faith practically in their spiritual lives.

TH202 – COVENANTS WITH GOD – 3 hours

The study of God’s redemptive work for mankind as seen through the seven covenants.

TH210 – PRAYER – 3 hours

An introduction to the inner disciplines of prayer and fasting, and its necessity for successful Christian ministry. The Lord’s Prayer will be used as a model, as well as other Scriptural references to effective prayer.

TH301 – APOSTOLIC STRATEGIES FOR WORLD MISSIONS – 3 hours

A study of the divine origin and progress of Christian missions from an apostolic perspective.

TH401 – COMPARATIVE RELIGIONS – 3 hours

A study of the Christian world view as it contrasts with secular world views and values of our culture. The course will also study some of the outstanding current theological issues, including cults and world religions as well as the effects of religion and divination on the anointing.

TH410 – GOD, MARRIAGE AND MINISTRY – 3 hours

This course will teach prospective ministers how to achieve the proper balance between relationships and ministry.

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION COURSES

CE101 – LIFESTYLE OF FAITH – 3 hours

An introduction to personal and corporate disciplines of faith for effective ministry. The topics discussed will be the lifestyle of personal righteousness, prayer and intercession, and utilizing the believer’s authority.

CE110 – KNOWING GOD’S WILL – 3 hours

A discovery method in scriptural studies on the clarity of God’s will. The meaning, implications, and applications of these scriptural models to knowing God’s will.


CE120 – CHURCH HISTORY – 3 hours

A study of church history from apostolic times through the Reformation. The influence of major persons, problems and decisions is traced from the earliest development. Parallels will be drawn to the 20th century church and revival movements.

CE201 – CHURCH MINISTRIES – 3 hours

A basic introduction to the various facets of church ministry. Practical ideas for formation, organization, and implementation in local church ministries.

CE320 – VISITATION, OUTREACH & EVANGELISM – 3 hours

A study of the importance of evangelism in the body of Christ.  Practical helps and guidelines for visitation, outreach, and evangelism are presented.

CE301 – LEADERSHIP – 3 hours

This course overviews various leadership styles. Help will be given to identify leadership qualities currently operating and those that need to be developed for effective ministry.

CE310 – ADMINISTRATION – 3 hours

The process of planning and administering a non-profit ministry. Special emphasis will be given to financial management, the relationships with church leaders, and the coordination of all programs of the church.

CE401 – CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT – 3 hours

Principles of learning styles will be presented, as well as an overview of how Christ taught. Evaluation of Christian education materials and definition of ministry aims will be evaluated. Methods of teacher preparation are also discussed.

CE410 – EFFECTIVE GROUP MINISTRY – 3 hours

This course teaches students to effectively minister to various ages, genders, and cultural settings.

PASTORAL MINISTIRES COURSES

PM230 – PERSONAL AND CHURCH FINANCE – 3 hours

An in-depth look at the importance of managing personal finances in order to be unencumbered for the ministry. Also, a study of the skills needed for managing the business functions of the local church including personnel management, finances, public relations, plan development, and legal matters.

PM210 – PULPIT SPEECH & COMMUNICATION I – 3 hours

A study of the preparation and delivery of various types of sermons. Emphasis is placed on sermon structure, texts, and themes, and upon delivery, including voice and body control.

PM220 – WORSHIP LEADING – 3 hours

An introduction to the ministry of music in the local church.  It introduces the students to Biblical worship, a philosophy of church music, the church calendar year, and the development of worship leading skills.

PM 301 – APOLOGETICS – 3 hours

This course involves the study of Christian evidences. Students learn proofs of the Christian faith and logical ways to set forth theses proofs and defend them.

PM310 – PULPIT SPEECH & COMMUNICATION II – 3 hours

After a review of basic principles of speech making and sermon preparation, the remainder of the classes will deal with analysis of sermons and presenting sermons for evaluation on delivery, voice and body control.

PM320 – WORSHIP AND SACRAMENTS – 3 hours

Preparation in planning and leading typical services of the church such as communion, water baptism, funerals, weddings, dedications, altar services, leading corporate worship.

PM330 – ETHICS AND ETIQUETTE – 3 hours

An application of Christian ethics to society as a whole. The course investigates ethical issues and the intellectual, moral, and spiritual forces that influence decision-making in the church and society. This course will also focus on the pastor and his obligation to personal ethics. Instruction will be given on parliamentary procedure and manners and proper etiquette in various social settings.

PM401 – DISCIPLINE & CORRECTION – 3 hours

Biblical models of correction, focusing on the ability to accept and administer discipline and correction.

PM410 – PULPIT SPEECH AND COMMUNICATION III – 3 hours

An examination of the role of communication in creating and maintaining relationships for effective leadership. The selection and organization of materials with its importance on speaker-audience relationship. Students will present Biblical sermon models on major social-moral problems facing congregations today: abortion, drug use, homosexuality, pre-marital sex, and addictions.

PM420 – MULTIMEDIA AND THE CHURCH – 3 hours

A survey and procedure for developing an integrated church music program. Also included are fundamentals for radio and TV broadcasting. The philosophy of leadership and communication styles for service organization and respon-sibilities will be explored. Students will organize and lead a worship service.


PM430 – ADVANCED COUNSELING – 3 hours

An introduction to the Biblical principles that inform and guide counseling for individuals, married couples, pre-marital counseling, and families. Emphasis is placed upon a distinctively Christian view of marriage and family development, interpersonal dynamics, life transitions, and crises.
