North Central Indiana Bible College is a ministry of Church of the Heartland.
Church of the Heartland was birthed from a vision to plant churches given to Herb Hiatt in 1987. Grace Community Church of Winamac, IN began because of a desire to reach Winamac with a positive message of hope. Grace Community Church grew in just a few short years to a thriving congregation.
In 1996, the dream to establish more churches came alive again as Pastor Herb felt called to start another Christian community in Plymouth, IN. River of Life Christian Center of Plymouth was started in 1998. At the same time, Herb’s son Heath Hiatt became senior pastor of what was Kankakee Valley Family Church of Knox, IN. One year later, Pastor Herb’s associate pastor, Jim Howard, started Word of Life Christian Center of Logansport, IN, our fourth church.
In the early fall of 2004, God instructed Heath and Herb to start our fifth church, this one in South Bend, IN. Church of the Heartland of South Bend had its official grand opening service on September 18, 2005.
Recently, Church of the Heartland has started a biker church in South Bend, and a home extension in Bourbon. All of these churches now bear the name Church of the Heartland as we advance with the vision of being one church in many locations.
The Bible college itself began in the mid-1990s, when many of our ministry’s leaders desired further teaching and training in the Word of God. Instead of sending our leaders away for Bible training, we started our own Bible college to serve and equip leaders locally.
